Movie posters - Codes & Conventions

Conclusion
Codes and conventions on movie posters are used to help promote them and also reflect upon the type of movie they are, this helps the audience know what they are getting in to and helps them decide whether they are interested or not. The images are there to give an insight as to who is in the movie and sometimes various cast member names may be shown to create more buzz and excitement, seeing their name but not their image will make the audience want to see them more. The colour theme is very important as it can be seen from a great distance therefore create a bigger impact. The darkness or the brightness of the movie poster will further encourage the audience to have a closer look or not. The font is very important as it change change the whole feel of the poster. The poster can go from serious to casual with the change of the font, more bold and basic fonts tend to be serious whilst artistic font can be very light hearted. This hugely reflects upon the movie genre. Taglines are not always present, but when they are they create a dramatic effect as well as help market the movies.
